“El Entierro de la Sardina” by Francisco Goya, 1812.

Houston’s Ars Lyrica period-instrument ensemble will take its audience back to a tumultuous time in art and society with “Goya’s World: Reflection & Revolution.”

Painter Francisco Goya y Luçientes depicted Spanish life of the late 18th and early 19th centuries in all its drama–from bullfights and tavern life to royal splendor and wartime brutality. Ars Lyrica will pair Goya’s works, projected above the musicians, with music that harmonizes with them. Curated by guitarist Richard Savino, the program will include movements from Luigi Boccherini’s guitar quartets and works by Antonio Soler, Fernando Sor and others. The concert is 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Zilkha Hall in the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. arslyricahouston.org; 713-622-7443.
