A restless cello melody sets the tone for the first movement of Vincent d’Indy’s Piano Quartet in A minor, a concert-hall rarity that will launch the Fauré Piano Quartett’s Tuesday concert for Chamber Music Houston.
Composed when d’Indy was in his late 20s, the quartet continues with a brooding second movement, titled “Ballade,” and an exuberant finale that gets an extra dose of energy from its shifting rhythms. The Fauré group will go on to two landmark works: the Quartet in G minor by the ensemble’s namesake, Gabriel Fauré, and Robert Schumann’s Quartet in E-flat Major. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Stude Concert Hall in Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. chambermusichouston.org
