The ultimate operatic ghost story, Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, takes the stage at Dallas Opera this week, in a production updating the nineteenth-century Gothic tale to the 1950s. Nicole Paiement conducts, with soprano Emma Bell making her Dallas debut as the Governess, joined by mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick and tenor William Burden.

This weekend’s performances at Winspear Opera House take place 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday, with repeats 7:30 p.m. March 22 and 25. dallasopera.org. 214-443-1043.
