Less than a year after his final concerts as music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Jaap van Zweden, who started his new job as music director of the New York Philharmonic in September, returns for a weekend of concerts as conductor laureate.

The program of romantic masterpieces will echo van Zweden’s focus on that repertoire during his Dallas years: pianist Louis Lortie will join van Zweden and the orchestra for Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 will follow after intermission. The program will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at Meyerson Symphony Center. mydso.com; 214-692-0203.
