Don Juan resumes his hell-bent womanizing Saturday night, when Mozart’s Don Giovanni opens Houston Grand Opera‘s springtime repertoire.

Danish director Kasper Holten, whose staging premiered at London’s Royal Opera in 2014, casts the legendary womanizer as an artist who thrives on the attention his creativity attracts. Going back to a practice that was more common in the 19th century, Holten dispenses with the opera’s final sextet, ending the saga as the libertine confronts his fate.

Ryan McKinny makes his role debut as the licentious Don, heading up a large cast that includes Ailyn Pérez as Donna Anna and Melody Moore as Donna Elvira.

Don Giovanni opens at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and runs through May 5 in Wortham Theater Center. houstongrandopera.org; 713-228-6737.
