Augustin Hadelich turned in a powerhouse performance of Jean Sibelius’ Violin Concerto last spring with the Houston Symphony, lavishing dynamism, virtuosity and big-hearted expressiveness on the epic work. North Texas music lovers can experience that this weekend, when the German violinist reprises the work with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will also bring the DSO debut of John Storgårds, who holds conducting posts with the BBC Philharmonic, National Arts Centre Orchestra Ottawa and Chamber Orchestra of Lapland. The Finnish conductor opens the program with Haydn’s Symphony No. 94 (“Surprise”). After the concerto by his compatriot Sibelius, Storgårds will lead the orchestra in the powerful Symphony No. 5 by Denmark’s Carl Nielsen.

Performances will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Meyerson Symphony Center. mydso.com; 214-692-0203.
