James Ehnes

American composer Aaron Jay Kernis is known for the engaging, eclectic romanticism of his large orchestral works.  His most recent effort, a Violin Concerto, premiered in Toronto on March 8. Dallas music-lovers will get a chance to hear the brand new piece this weekend when violinist James Ehnes, for whom the work was written, joins the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and guest conductor Gustavo Gimeno. The concert also includes two longstanding favorites from the symphonic repertoire, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at Meyerson Symphony Center. mydso.org; 214-692-0203.
