We knew it had to happen eventually.

David Cooper, at 32 one of the greatest horn players in the world, has finally been lured away from his post as principal of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra to join the Berlin Philharmonic. But he’s still in Dallas for the remainder of the season, and will be featured soloist with the Dallas Symphony this weekend for Richard Strauss’s Horn Concerto No. 1.

The concerts, also featuring Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 and Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra, will be conducted by another rising young star, Karina Canellakis, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. mydso.com; 214-849-4376.
